Burlington is a city in Skagit County, Washington, located in the Skagit Valley roughly halfway between Seattle and Vancouver, Canada. The city recorded a population of 9,152 at the 2020 census and is part of the Mount Vernon–Anacortes metropolitan area. Burlington functions as a commercial and retail center for the surrounding valley, with a concentration of stores and services along its Interstate 5 corridor. The city sits at the crossroads of Interstate 5 and State Route 20, a position that has made it a shopping and services hub for Skagit County. Cascade Mall and the surrounding retail district anchor this role, drawing shoppers from Mount Vernon, Sedro-Woolley, Anacortes, and the broader region.
